Are you curious at how Jack LaLanne Power Juicer performs ? Can an infomercial juicer beat similarly priced juicers in the market with it’s seemingly dry pulp, silent motors and tasty juices?
Let’s check this machine out.
IT’S BUILT:
Okay, so it’s made of plastic like most juicers you’ll see in Kmart. The bad thing is the color is white, meaning that you’ll have to live with fruit stains on it’s surface (read: beware of carrots).
When you open your box, if you’re lucky you’ll get it pre-assembled. If not, you’ll get around around 9 different parts that you had to put together. Fortunately, you’ll get a printed guide to help you.
The feeder is quite big and it seems like you can put some fruits and vegetables right in the juicer without chopping (as shown on tv). Just note that whole apples don’t fit through the feed tube unless the apples are real small.
PERFORMANCE:
Firstly, the Power Juicer is fast and relatively quiet. The juice that comes out of it are tasty but are quite foamy - the trademark of a centrifugal juicer. Some may like it but most don’t.
When juicing juicy fruits like an orange we notice that the juicer shoots some of it’s juice. That doesn’t sound bad until you realized it can shoot those juices around 1-2 feet in front of the spout. It could squirt everywhere, making a mess of your shirt and kitchen. Be careful, you have been warned. ![]()
The other thing about this juicer is the fact that not all the pulp end up in the pulp collector. Some ends up in or around the filter or the receptacle.
CLEANING UP:
Power Juicer is not the easiest juicer to clean. You’ll need special tool (provided) to remove it’s filter. The mesh filter will often have a few traces of fruits/vegetables after rinsing. Thus, it needs scrubbing.
Like most juicers, clean it up as soon as you’ve finished juicing. If not, cleaning will be a real pain.
We don’t recommend using a dishwasher to clean it because we do not think the chrome like trim can hold on.
NOISE LEVEL:
If you’re used to juicing, you’ll notice how much quieter the unit is. It’s a good thing since you can juice in the morning and it won’t wake up your kids.
PLUSES:
MINUSES:
CONCLUSION:
Honestly, we will not recommend Jack Lalanne’s Power Juicer. We’re worried than yours could be the next one that comes with a short-lived motor.
Yes, the pulp are mostly dry and the juicer seems to be able to do it’s job. And being quiet is definately a big plus.
Unfortunately, we think it’s less easier to clean and the fact that it’s easily stained (and difficult to remove) will make it a juicer you want to hide. Oh! remember about possibility of fruit bath too ..
RETAIL AT: around $90

was already considering this juicer until i stumbled upon this very good and honest review. thanks for ur help
No prob marko. I was just trying to publish an honest review of this highly commercialized juicer.
I bought this juicer a couple years back. Still works like a champ. At one point it was ‘dead’. Motor didnt spin, you can hear it ‘hum’ like if it was trying to spin, but no go. After 2 weeks of missing out on my juiced carrots, I simply unscrewed the bottom, and gave the bottom motor ‘knob’ looking thing a good turn with my hand, and presto, back in business. (I unplugged of course while doing this). I’m sure this accounts for most of the motor problems. Seems the motor locked up on me while jamming and pressing real hard on carrots. I now push them down naturally firm. Not like a jackhammer like before lol
I have two juicers, and I found the Power Juicer to be a less complicated juicer than the champion. Cleaning was quicker, not nearly as heavy. HOWEVER, a tiny little tab on the pulp collecter (made of cheap plastic) broke and that was the important piece that told the engine to run (when the pulp collector is not placed, it wont run, which is a great plus). They happily agreed to replace it but that was two and a half months ago. The first time I called, it never even made it to the computer and I had to start over again when I called to check the status.
Im really frustrated as the amount of time I have owned it, most of it has been out of commission,.
I love the juicer but their customer service is the pits.
It is me again….I wanted to publish my long sad experience with customer service.
I must be a gluten for punishment.
May 2007 told them the juicer was not working
Said they would send out return label
June 14 2007 called to say I still have not received label
July 6 they said they sent out new part.
august 10 Called back asked too speak to supervisor and they said I should receive a call in a few days
August 22 called again called to speak to supervisor. said I would get a call. had an argument because I said I doubted call would come . Clerk hung up on me.
Sept 6 had argument with clerk. Said he needed to listen to all the tapes before he could help me. Said if I dont receive it by Friday, we would figure out what the next step would be.
I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER JUICER NOR WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY.
I met Jack when 28 years ago. He was very sweet and I bet he would never allow this terrible service, especially under his name.
I miss my apple lemon juice.
ugh!
Stephanie,
I can feel the anger burning in you right now.
I do not know much about the company’s after sales service but from what i hear they are not that helpful.
I guess they are tired of too many customer calls complaining about this machine.
I agree with you, it’s a pity Jack has put his name on the machine. He’ll make some money but the juicer only helps in tarnishing his reputation.
I suggest you go for a high end Breville juicer and throw away the Jack Lalanne.
Stephanie,
Just reading your comments on the company’s service ticks me off. Every business makes mistakes but when they avoid responsibility and continually make false promises, it makes me want to tell the world of their horrific service.
MAYBE, YOU SHOULD KNOW TO GO TO TOP QUALITY AND NOT CATCH A LOW CUAD MECHA, LESSON LEARNED….B
ok i am back!!!!
The date is Novemer 16 and still no part.
I agree i should have spent more money and bought a better one. I reallly did like it. Despite that fact, I still feel like I want this thing up and running. The alternative??? Landfill.
DO NOT BUY THIS JUICER……..
CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS?
ok…
in all fairfness, I should tell you the outcome of my juicer saga!
I called again, two weeks ago to see if the part was mailed. No it had not been mailed. Turned out the person I spoke to had sent me the last (wrong) part herself. She insisted she sent the correct part and I must be mistaken. I described it to her and yes it was the wrong part. I waited on the phone as she went to the “stock room.” Turned out they dont make replacement parts for this juicer (remember I bought it in May 07). She agreed to send me an upgraded version.
The last bit I will tell you is I wrote to Jack Lalane himself, and told him I thought this company (tristar) was an unscrupulous company and his name was associated! I got back an immediate reply saying they would call Tristar.
Check this out! Thje next day a supervisor called me. I must have sat on hold for a total of a few hours since May never getting trhough to the manager. I told her how impossible it had been to reach her and she was surprised. The customer service people literally forbid me to get ttrhough. Though I wound up with a better juicer six months later, I realize I simply cheaped out. Go for quality, not bargain.
My hats off to you Stephanie!
If more people who’ve bought this machine complained directly to Jack like you did, I believe Jack will eventually drop his endorsement of this juicer.
thanks….I guess if anything, I am persistant. But I wont go cheap again.
: )
ok…… Im done. The new juicer does not work. I have nothing left to say.
: (
Im going to digout my champion.
After all of these they dare gave you a stupid juicer again?
